Most people think that installing a blind is a tricky task. In reality, if you are a DIY person, then you can install window blinds without any difficulty.
Here is a step-by-step guide for the installation of blinds
Things You Are Going To Need
Here are the tools that you are going to need for the installation of the blinds
- A screwdriver.
- Pencil.
- Level.
- Step Ladder.
- Measuring Tape.
Inside Blinds or Outside Blinds
You can install blinds both on the outside and inside the window. It all depends upon your preferences. The plus point of installing the blinds on the inside of the window is that it gives a defined look to the window compared to the outside.
Another plus point is that there will be no holes visible on the outside when you remove the blinds completely. But if there are any holes in the window frame, then blinds on the outside are preferred as the blinds brackets will cover them.
Measuring
Measuring the size of the blinds that you need for your window is crucial. The important thing is that you have to measure the exact size to avoid any inconvenience later.
To measure the size of the blinds inside, you do not have to include the frame. Just take the size right from where the frame ends. Measure the length and width of the blinds without including the frame.
In order to measure the size of the blinds for the outside, you have to include the edges of the frame too. To ensure the blind’s length, take the size from the edge of the frame from top and bottom. and for the width of the blinds, again measure from the edge of the frame from left and right.
Purchasing and Marking
Now purchase the blinds exactly according to the measurements that you made. Make sure to focus on the quality of the blinds. Now it’s time to do some preparations for the blind installation.
Inside Blinds
For inside, you have to place the headrail right below the frame. Make a mark of the pencil just below the headrail. Do it for both the top and bottom.
Outside Blinds
Put the headrail of the blind at the level of the frame of the window. Now take a pencil and make a mark below the headrail. Do it for both the top and bottom.
Brackets
Now you have to install the brackets. Place the brackets right above where you marked the headrail marks. The placement of the bracket should be like the bracket door opens toward you. And the other open side of the bracket faces toward the center of the window.
Hold the bracket in that position and mark the spots where you have to drill the holes. For inside blinds installation, you have to place the bracket on the inside of the frame and make the marks. Now remove the bracket from the place. Drill the holes where you made the marks. The size of the holes should be a bit smaller than the size of the screws to fit the brackets properly.
Valance Clips
Valance is placed on the headrail to make it look more attractive. You have to attach the valance clips before putting the headrail into the brackets. Place the valance clips in the right place.
Now you have to place the headrail into the brackets. Open the bracket doors and place the headrail in the bracket. Now close the bracket doors properly. It’s time to place the valance on the headrail. It is up to you how you want the valance to be placed. When the valance is at the right place, gently close the clips.
Bottom Brackets
Bottom brackets also come with the blinds. But most people do not install them. If you do not want your blinds to flap with the wind. You can install the brackets and place the bottom rail in those rackets, so they do not flap.
Install Cleats
In the end, you have to install the cleats. There is nothing complex in installing the cleats. Install the cleats on either side of the window where you feel convenient. Cleats are used to wrap the cords of the blinds.
